It’s no use trying not to think about it… Christmas will be upon us before we know it!
But let’s not dwell upon presents, family, school holidays.
Let’s close our eyes and remember the atmosphere.
When we were children…
When Christmas tunes would immediately put us in the festive mood…
When we would all gather round to decorate the Christmas tree…
Come on, let’s say goodbye to air-conditioned shopping centres!
And, shouting: “Only little gifts for Christmas this year!”, let’s all get out there onto the festive streets of Tuscany ♥
Here is a Tour of the Christmas street markets in Tuscany for 2013.
Until 23 December
EVERY DAY FROM 10 AM TO 10 PM
Florence city centre: Piazza Santa Croce.
One of the most Christmassy events of all: the German street market.
Put one day aside in Florence to stroll around the 40 covered wooden stalls to look at, taste and buy the best of German food, drink and hand crafted produce.
Need some ideas?
For the taste buds: bratwurst, sauerkraut, pork shank, pretzels and strudel.
For your Christmas presents: decorated baubles, statues for your nativity scene, Christmas decorations, traditional ceramics.
Immerse yourself in a timeless world!
PISA: STREET MARKET & FATHER CHRISTMAS’ FACTORY!
FROM 20 to 24 & FROM 26 to 29 DECEMBER
FROM 10 AM TO 8 PM
A children’s paradise: come and send your letters to Father Christmas in his very own Post Office, accompanied by the elves.
All day entertainment: bubble shows, face-painting, train rides, souvenir photos… and the Christmas restaurant.
To take a peek at Father Christmas’ house, see the full programme and write Christmas letters with your children: http://bit.ly/PisaFabbricaNatale.
And parents need not despair…
For the adults, there is the Christmas Market of hand crafted gifts and decorations: until 24 December, from 10 am to 8 pm, under the Logge di Banchi and in Largo Ciro Menotti.
And for lovers of antiquities, there is the Christmas Antiques Market in via San Francesco, from 22 to 24 December, from 9 am to 8 pm!
Grab the opportunity! And whilst you are there… who’s to stop you going to see the most famous Leaning Tower in the world?!
LUCCA: FIERA DI SAN MICHELE
From 8 to 24 DECEMBER
From 9 am to 8 pm
On the day of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the doors open to the Fiera di San Michele, one of Lucca’s biggest events: a nativity scene of over 300 m2 with life-sized figures leads you all the way to Saint Michael’s Square, where you will find more than 50 stalls selling baubles, toys, Christmas decorations, gifts, food and wines… an opportunity not to be missed! And to entertain the littlest ones amongst you, go to Piazza Giudiccioni: an enchanted wood filled with lights and… Father Christmas’ house!
